Supported File Formats

JPEG, JPG
compressed file format, best for photos and the most common WWW format. JPEG compression may reduce the quality of a picture.

BMP
BMP stands more Bitmap. BMP is the standard non-compressed bitmap format in Windows.

PNG
PNG is a rather new compressed file format. It is expected to replace GIF as GIF is limited to 256 colors. PNG supports True Color like JPG, but unlike JPG its compression is loss-less. In other words, it compresses the picture without a loss in quality. But PNG file are practically always much larger than JPG. PNG supports transparency. EasyPeg can save PNG with transparency information. EasyPeg itself does not display transparency though.

GIF
Like PNG GIF is a lossless image format. However, it only supports 256 colors and the quality of the saved image may be lower due to the use of fewer colors. EasyPeg does not support GIF transparency.

JPEG 2000
A new images standard for photos. It supports lossless compression like PNG and lossy compression like JPEG. It support high image compression with good image quality.

EMF, WMF
Windows Meta File and Enhanced Windows Metafile formats can be read and written.

ICO
EasyPeg can import icons.

MPEG
EasyPeg can display MPEGs in the Video Frame Extractor. This feature only works if the windows media player is installed.

AVI
EasyPeg can display AVIs in the Video Frame Extractor. This feature only works if the windows media player is installed.
